Massive Anti-SIR Stir at Bengaluru’s Freedom Park: Protesters Demand Scrapping of SIR, Resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar
Bengaluru
Thousands of demonstrators gathered at Freedom Park on Thursday morning as citizen forums, civil society groups, and opposition outfits launched a large-scale protest against the Special Intensive Revision (#SIR) of electoral rolls.
Prominent public figures, including actor-activist Prakash Raj, YouTuber and commentator Dhruv Rathee, and leaders of Cockroach Janta Party (#CJP), joined the rally to express solidarity with citizens whose names have allegedly been deleted from voter lists.
The agitation centers on widespread allegations of irregularities during the SIR exercise. Organizers set up a "People’s Tribunal" at the venue, providing a platform for affected voters from #Bengaluru and across #Karnataka to present testimonies about finding their names struck off the electoral rolls without proper procedure or notification.
Protesters raised slogans demanding an immediate rollout reversal to pre-SIR voter rolls and called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner #GyaneshKumar, accusing the Election Commission of enabling mass voter disenfranchisement.
The #BengaluruPolice have deployed heavy security contingents and barricades around Freedom Park and along routes leading to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office to maintain order.
